My life is so blessed.
If you ever see me not smiling, please deliver a swift kick to the shin…
as I am clearly not in my right mind.

This past weekend was vonderful (with a ‘v’). I got to see a lot of my close friends back home, but sadly many of them I also did not see. Then again, it was a short weekend and I didn’t try to plan too many things with very many people.
Elissa and I mostly sat around and made eye-goggles, which I later found out one of my roommates is physically incapable of doing. Brian, Scotty, and I brainstormed about the placebo effect of EpiPens and watched MST3K: The Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy. I challenged myself to eat an entire bag of butter mints….that was unwise. After reading the ingredients all I could taste was the salt. Salt and butter. Salt and butter and misery.
Cole and I spent Friday night sitting at a very classy looking table drinking tea and hot cocoa while discussing life’s important matters (ie. band names, pinky swearing, and night wear). Despite the fact that she and I haven’t actually ever done much while hanging out, every time feels like an adventure none the less. I’m enjoying getting to know that gal.
Catching up with my parents was wonderful. My mom also dropped some rather suprising news on me:
She’s retired
My mother seems far too young to be retired already, yet I do agree with her decision. In the few years since her last surgery she never seems to have energy to do anything once she gets home. Plus now she can spend more time grandma’ing it up.
A slight funk seems to have stricken me, luckily it’s quite a tiny one. It’s not unusual for me to be in an odd mood after returning from a great weekend to a schedule of homework and exams. I don’t think the weather is helping. Luckily, all that it takes for me to get back to my usual giddy self is a good song. This one works everytime:
[interesting tidbit: the main lyric is actually ‘eyelids want to close’, the singer named the song Island on the Coast just to mess with people. I like this guy.]

Today I finally got to hold my adorable new nephew. Maddox Drake Brower was born at 4am on Tuesday but I hadn’t had the chance to see the little guy ‘til tonight. They got home from the hospital today, so I stopped by their house right after work…just in time for a dirty diaper.
I held Maddox for an hour or so, but he mostly just slept. Once he opened one of his eyes halfway, then it was back to dreaming little baby dreams. Every now and then he would crack a cute little smile as he wiggled about.
It’s so surreal to think that my sister is now a mother. That my parents are now grandparents. That I am now an uncle.
This is unquestionably going to change the dynamics of our family greatly, and I’m really hoping that it will bring far more closeness and love. This isn’t to say I don’t have a good relationship within my family, it’s just that I feel we aren’t as open with each other as we should be. Change is good.
I’m also hoping that Maddox will someday find a career or hobby in which his name will lend itself to the inevitable nickname of Mad-Ox. I’m thinking either freelance stuntman or hosting a TLC that tries in vain to be edgy
maybe the XFL will make a comeback…
