O, R they?

Thus far I have put a respectable dent in my ‘must watch’ list of movies. Here’s where I’m at so far:

Bottle Rocket
A Scanner Darkly
Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Rushmore
The Squid and The Whale
Annie Hall
Slumdog Millionaire
Kill Bill 1 & 2
He Died with a Felafel In His Hand
Afro Samurai: Resurrection

Forgetting Sarah Marshall was….meh. It was neither a movie that I’d recommend to a friend or one I’d tell them to be wary of. Overall it was ok…considerably more man bits than I generally prefer however.

Rushmore (which I just now finished) was very good. Generally I love Wes Anderson’s movies because of how different and altogether awkward they are. Rushmore was met both of these expectations with flying colors, while feeling surprisingly easy to follow. Don’t get me wrong, it’s weird. I was very (pleasantly) confused throughout much of the film, but not because it was hard to follow, the characters were just ridiculous. Awkward humor abounds.

He Died with a Felafel In His Hand was one of those movies that I enjoyed without really understanding. This movie is a great example of something that I love in certain movies, no predictable story arc. This isn’t to say that there is no plot, it’s just that I like movies where you don’t have a problem laid out in front of you and you’re simply waiting for the protagonist to solve it. I much prefer simply watching a story unfold in front of me, without trying to guess how it will play out. I’d much rather go along for a ride.

Afro Samurai: Resurrection was alright. The art style wasn’t nearly as much fun as the anime series, I missed the delayed fountains of blood. The storyline was solid, but the villain was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. She simply would not shut up. I get it, villains like to explain their motives and do the maniacal shtick, but after the 6th time it gets old, really old. The worst part was, after all of the explanations, I still didn’t really understand her reasons for going after Afro like she did.

Also, I’ve always thought that when I get old and gross I’d like to be one of the greeters at a Walmart of Meijer. Those people can say anything and get away with it. However, I have changed my mind. When I get old, I want to be like this lady
